The Uros Islands of Lake Titicaca are man-made "floating" islands. They are constructed out of dried reed gathered from the lake. The islanders live in reed huts, but have solar power for lights, radio and even television. |
The people of Uros also build reed boats. Many have reed sails as well, and are decorated with faces of dragons, ducks or other animals. |
The Island of Taquile, also on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca. People here still dress traditionally and tend to speak in whispers. It is a tranquil place. |
